Free items policy

A free item is a digital product a seller has chosen to publish at a price of zero: source code, scripts, templates, plugins, UI components and other development assets. Any registered user can take one, and nothing needs to be purchased first.

Free describes the price and nothing else. It does not mean the item is unlicensed, public domain, open source, or free of the obligations below. A seller who wants to release work without these terms should publish it somewhere built for that.

Free items are offered voluntarily. A seller may stop offering one whenever they choose, and we do not guarantee that any particular free item stays available.

Every free item passes the same review as a paid item before it goes live. That review covers whether the seller had the right to publish the work, security, whether the item does what its page claims, code quality, and whether installation instructions are present.

An item that fails review does not go live at any price. A free item with a security hole harms whoever installs it exactly as much as a paid one would, and we treat it the same way.

To take a free item you must:

• Hold a registered OurCodeMarket account in good standing
• Have confirmed your email address
• Accept the licence terms shown on that item
• Not be under an active suspension

Visitors who are not signed in cannot download free items. Creating an account is free and takes under a minute, and it exists so the licence has an owner and your downloads stay available to you later.

Checkout runs as normal but asks for no payment, and the licence is issued immediately. You receive:

• A licence entry under My licences
• A purchase code, where the item uses one
• Downloads for as long as you hold the licence
• Every future version the seller publishes, at no cost

Taking a free item grants a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use that item. The specific terms are set by the seller and shown on the item's page. Unless that page says otherwise, the following applies.

You may

• Use the item in a personal or a commercial project
• Modify it to fit what you are building
• Include it in work you deliver to a client
• Take another licence for another project, at no cost, as often as you need

You may not

• Resell, redistribute or sublicense the item as a standalone file or product
• Upload it to another marketplace, file host or distribution platform
• Remove or alter the seller's copyright notices, credits or licence headers
• Present the item as your own original work
• Use it to build a competing marketplace, template store or asset library

Some sellers apply more restrictive terms, personal use only for example. Always read the licence detail on the item page before using it in commercial work. Full terms are in the licence terms.

Sellers are under no obligation to provide support on a free item. Whether they do is their choice, and the item page states the support window before you download. My licences shows it afterwards.

Take that into account before building something you depend on. Where a seller does offer support, the item support policy applies unchanged, including any paid renewal they offer.

We do not provide technical support for the contents of a free item. If an item does not work as described and the seller is unresponsive, report the listing and we will review it.

A seller may update, reprice or withdraw a free item at any time, without notice. We do not guarantee the continued availability of any specific free item.

What you already hold is unaffected. If an item you have taken is later withdrawn or made paid, your licence, your downloads and your right to future updates continue on the terms under which the licence was issued. We do not revoke an issued licence because the price moved.

The reverse also holds: a paid item later becoming free gives no refund to anyone who paid for it earlier, because what they bought was delivered.

We may also remove a free item at our discretion, for example where it infringes someone's rights, contains undisclosed harmful behaviour, or breaches our guidelines. Where removal is for a rights or safety reason we may have to withdraw access for people who already hold it, and we will tell you rather than let you discover it. See the copyright and DMCA policy.

Publishing an item at no cost carries the obligations of any listing, plus these:

• The item must meet the same quality and content standard as a paid listing, and goes through the same review
• The work must be yours, or licensed in a way that permits you to distribute it free of charge, including every bundled dependency
• The item must be usable as published. Core advertised functionality may not be disabled behind a payment, a key sold elsewhere, or an undisclosed time limit
• Any limitation compared with a paid version must be stated plainly on the item page before download, not discovered after installation
• You may convert a free item to paid at any time, but must honour licences already issued under the free listing
• You keep your copyright, and may withdraw the item whenever you choose

• No telemetry, tracking, advertising, injected links or backdoors that the item page does not disclose
• No obfuscated or encrypted code beyond a licence check disclosed on the item page
• No using a free listing to advertise an external paid product in a misleading way

By listing an item as free, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and distribute it through the platform at no charge to users.

The following may result in licences being revoked, access withdrawn, or the account closed:

• Creating multiple accounts to get around a limit or a suspension
• Using automated tools, bots or scripts to bulk-collect free items
• Redistributing free items on other platforms, file sharing sites or direct links
• Repackaging a free item and selling it, here or anywhere else
• Misrepresenting the source or authorship of a free item

We may update this policy. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed, and material changes will be announced on the blog. Licences already issued continue on the terms under which they were issued.
